They are still double stack mags, and the amount of finger reach to the trigger (due to the removal of material on the upper rear part of the receiver-the backstrap) is shorter(5mm or 0.2 in), hence you have "Short Frame."

Monty, You're correct about the terminology. I went back this morning and looked at my notes I took. I guess I was just having a brain fart last night. Sorry for the confusion.
