The standard FNP-9 had a de-cocker but no safety. The USG version of the FNP had a safety/de-cocker and that is how the FNX is set up. You can carry it in condition one (cocked & locked) if you are so inclined. The controls have changed some, different beaver-tail, different (more aggressive) stippling. I have a FNP-9 that I really like and a FNX-40. Here's a picture of them side by side. I like the FNX better but not enough to recommend passing up a deal on a FNP. The lower bore axis on the .40S&W makes it a real soft shooter - for a .40S&W.
