Leupold VX-1.

A couple of years ago I'd have said to either go up to the VX-2 or look at other brands. But in 2012 the VX-1 is the best all around hunting scope in the $200 range. They have gone up slightly to $230. I bought one during the summer for $199, but it is well worth the extra cash. Leupold has upgraded their entire line in 2012. You are basically getting last years VX-2 at VX-1 pricing now. The VX-2 is even better as is the VX-3.

For $10 more I think the long range reticle is the way to go.

There are some other $200 options that have good glass and are decent scopes. But the Leupold offers nearly 5" of eye relief vs 3-3.5" on most of the others. They are considerably lighter and trimmer. Have the option of being customized either now or later with features such as turrets or custom reticles if you desire. You get dead nuts reliable scope with a no questions asked repair warranty forever.
