Certainly the latter recommendation is correct, but the few indoor ranges I have shot on did not have a naked lead requirement. No steel cores or steel jackets allowed, but copper jacketed/plated lead core bullets are acceptable.


As for gun selection, a 1911 or maybe Beretta would be best. They are regularly shot in competition and their management is well understood.

Look for a bullseye gunsmith who will accurize your pistol without a lot of cosmetics. You need a well fitted barrel, good trigger, and that Ultra Dot.
French fried borders, hand checkering, and royal blue will not improve anything but the shop's profit margin.
