Some store are price gouging but most are the same price if you can find it in stock. Most of the local retailers are limiting the amount you can purchase to try and spread the limited amount they are getting in. To prevent mad rushes the local Academy store was signing people up when a truck was coming in and allowed the people into the store two to three at a time every five minutes about a half hour before it opened. You were allowed at that time five boxes or one bulk item of the popular ammunition ie .223, 7.62x39, .308, 9mm, .40, and .45. One of the stores that is price gouging had two employees who were first through the door, they came out of the store with an AR-15 each and two shopping carts full of ammunition. I was looking for .22 lr rimfire for my daughter's Sig and they had cleaned out every rimfire cartridge except the birdshot.
