Hi again from over the seas in England, hopping for some information on a Merrill Capping Breach Loader in .44 cal with a 25 -1/2" barrel and 40 - 1/2" overall, engraved Jas H Merrill Baltimore Pat 1858. see attached photos.
We can find information these guns in 54 and 58 cal plus 1 mention of a 68 cal all of these are what I would call over here in England military muskets, the gun we have is more like a sporting / target gun with provision for a rear aperture sight sadly missing,the patch box lid is also a replacement I think, the gun was fully refinished before we got it which is a shame, would have preferred in original condition, we have shot the gun and it performs really good, very little smoke or gas escaping around the seal( we have fitted a modern rubber O Ring) and at 50 meters shoots well.
Any information on this or similar guns would be appreciated.
