I've had some nice groups with pretty fair velocity with H414 and cast bullets in the 175gr. range, but this was in an old original '94 with 26" barrel. I would want to use something a little faster for your trapper. Most ball powders have a very long shelf life, so if it doesn't work out in your 30-30, hang on to it until you aquire a rifle more suited to this burning rate. I've used it in my 243's and 280 Rem. with excellent results.
