The .45-70 would be a good place to start reloading. Straight walled case. Use some Trail Boss. It is so bulky you can't double charge. Low recoil. Save yourself some $$$ and get your son started. A win-win. Regardless, you will be liking your rifle and then you can get the .30-30.
