Serial number data for S&W's auto pistols is very incomplete after 1993. That said, if it's a standard 5906 (not Super 9, Military or TSW), it was produced from 1989 to 1999. Your "V" prefix SN would be at the end of production.

I'm not sure what you're asking as the letter from S&W would identify what model it is. Which, based on an 1890 manufacture date, would likely be a .32 Double Action 4th Model.
