Smaller wood service grips would likely have been standard but I have seen quite a few "K" frames with the larger wood target grips.
I would not refinish it. That said, it would likely run about $200 plus shipping to send it off for a quality rebluing job.

Model 17's are great guns! Value is in the $500 to $600 range with them going higher in some areas.
