For something a little different, I like to take old S&W grips and change them to get new life out of them. Target grips are just a little big for my hands so I look for old targets that are in bad shape and remove the checkering and S&W medallions. I sand them down to the size and shape I want then reset the medallions and finish the grips. This makes them smaller than regular targets but bigger than magnas. Works for me.
This first set is a little extreme but shows how a set can be saved. I picked them up at a gun show for $5 because I saw some nice grain in the wood.

These are some K frame targets that the checkering was worn away on the right panel. On a M15-3.

These are some Sile (spelling?) grips that were for a square butt N frame that I changed to round butt and removed the checkering in order to see the grain better.
