Those large capacity cases is exactly why I quit using 231 -- low pressure, large capacity and TINY TINY TINY amounts of 231.
I was getting huge variations in velocity with my .44 Special target gun with 231. It was also very hard to determine if I actually had powder in the case without rappelling down into it for an inspection.
When Trail Boss came out, I never looked back.
For my .45 Colt I use Universal. It's a larger charge and gives me closer to top end charges without much velocity variation and it's not as position sensitive as 231 seems to be.
