Scouting this weekend...........

Sunday we went to the woods with the intention of fixing the tractor, shooting Louann's new carry piece, setting up a game cam and looking about just to see what was going on.

First thing we notice is that even though its been raining a lot here, and as of 2 weeks ago the mosquitoes would carry you off, today they were not bad. The reason, as best we could figure, is that the ditches all now have minnows in them, there are small frogs and toads all over the place and the spider numbers are off the charts.

And I'm guessing that things we can't see, things that eat/kill mosquitoes too, have ramped up also. This is not to say there were not any but rather that nature has caught up with herself some......thank goodness.

As for animals.......deer were out at sunrise and then again around noon/1 PM.....only heads we saw were smooth but saw at least a dozen.

Turkeys.....2 groups of small ones.....alone....?.....which I did not understand....a hen with 5 little ones......................and a couple of big birds together.

The little ones in the picture let us follow them in the truck as they walked down the road stripping seeds from the grass. Got as close as 15 yards yet they never did more than walk fast.

Saturday we slammed the boat in the water at dawn for a look at one of the areas we have tags for this season. Spent about 3 hours working down the lake looking for a couple of good ones to target on opening week. The ones in the picture are in the 9 to 11 foot range......well worth catching but not giants.
