Doyle, the Encore with the 10" bull barrel is about a pound and a half heavier than the Smith 629 Classic, plus the scope weighs almost a pound more than the red dot sight, so the Encore is way heavier. I shoot heavier handloads in the Encore (300 grain @ 1375 fps versus 270 gr @ 1275' for the S&W) and it is still easier on recoil. The problem with the much heavier weapon is offhand shooting. It's extended power and range is great from a tree stand, but on the ground I prefer the revolver.
