My experience matches with MalH. If they go into the chamber ok, they will shoot just fine. I wouldn't hesitate to pop them off plinking, and I doubt that after firing you'll be able to find any dent, though you might see a shadow of where it used to be.

.22LR are not hot high pressure rounds that put any serious strain on your gun and I doubt any dent that still allows the round to chamber will raise pressure to a dangerous level.

All else being equal (and it almost never is) bigger bullets tend to work better.
