That's good advice from sigcurious as to how to turn off the subscriptions to new threads (Options are also available up in the "Quick Links" menu). However, you will still be subscribed to any threads for which you already have a subscription. To delete those subscriptions go to Quick Links -> Subscribed Threads where you can handle any or all of your current subscriptions.
By the way, the default setting for all members is "Do not subscribe", so you had to have turned on subscriptions at one time or another.
