Sabots can be a bit rough on chronographs, as well.
I was trying to chronograph some .30 cal 200-grain Sierra Game King bullets with polycarbonate sabots out of my .50 BMG rifle. A sabot fragment center-punched the display on my "Pro Tach" and broke a bunch of stuff inside. It also knocked the chronograph and tripod into the dirt. AW****!!!
Competition Electronics replaced it for $24.50 + $5 S&H. They have a good accident policy.
