From your other post you stated you are loading for a lever action rifle. The manual of the rifle should state the maximum overall length that the rifle will handle. Measure with the round seated at the first groove. If it is too long seat to the second one.

Also loading a dummy round to load into the magazine. Cycle the lever to see if it feeds.

Note you should not have to too wild with the crimp in the lever action. Though a firm crimp is needed to prevent too much set back.
