I think this is in part due to the dual recoil springs in the subcompact Glocks. They work to dampen the felt recoil.

Not hardly! The 357 Sig takes a 40 S&W case and necks it down to a 9mm projectile. The 9x25 takes the 10mm case and necks it down to a 9mm projectile. Its a step up from a 38 Super.
