To see what you're getting into, I suggest trying to get a copy of AGI's videos on the 1911 to view. Most of these were done by Bob Dunlap, where he used a cut-away 1911 to explain the operation, any problems that could happen, and the takedown and assembly of the pistol. If you want to do it afterwards, then sign up for a course for some hands-on experience. The videos are detailed, and you can have a good understanding of the 1911 before you take the course.
