Maybe I'm off base, but carbon from the direct impingement system mixed with grease would seem to make a lapping compound. Since lithium grease is actually petroleum with lithium as a thickener it would seem to me that the grease, carbon and heat from rapid fire would make asphalt, just like in a muzzle loader that is using petroleum lubricants.
