If you don't properly seat the recoil spring into the barrel when you reassemble the gun, it can jump and bite the plastic frame. You'll have a metal smiley face, or ripped up plastic on the receiver. One of my Glocks had this, presumably someone at the LGS didn't re-assemble it right.

It's ugly, but doesn't affect reliability.
