This demonstrates another problem with the long guns over the handguns....
When folks go out, like to the store to get groceries or such, do they take their long guns with them?
I'm betting that most folks don't.
And if someone breaks in to their home while they are out, do you think the criminal will not find that shotgun in the closet?
And then the home owner comes home, now there is someone waiting inside their home who is now armed with a shotgun.
But one can take the handgun with them, leaving no weapons behind for a burglar to find.
Rifles and shotguns are certainly not useless.
It's just that handguns are more practical.
