As for firing in the air, there was no other choice. It's kind of like if a car crosses the centerline into your lane and you swerve in to the next lane on the right without signaling or checking mirrors. If you stay in your lane, you will get hit, swerve and there is a chance the lane is empty or at least if a car is there it is going your way.
