The purpose of a blackout is to be able to have AK ballistics in short barrels, using supersonic ammo AND the benefit of using subsonic ammo that will cycle in an AR platform without the need for adjusting the gas system when used with a suppressor.
The side benefit is a benefit to a benefit, which is the fact that you get all of the above with only having to change the barrel.
