Check the owners manual (if you don't have one for your P95, you can get it online). Most centerfire guns can be dry fired with no ill effects. Most rimfire guns should not be dry fired. But, there's exceptions of course. For example, the Ruger SR series can be dry fired all day long, with an empty magazine. Dry firing with no magazine in the well smacks the striker into the magazine safety block (as designed), and Ruger warns it can lead to problems eventually.
