I bought one from a friend for $700 and it's a mix master but shoots pretty well. I bought it for a shooter not as a collector piece. Mine is a Springfield action from 1943 and was re-barreled with a Springfield 1952 barrel. I'm assuming that it was probably re built in 1953 but restocked recently as there is no cartouches anywhere on it. So I feel that your price is very reasonable.
