I was in the same situation three years ago. I was somewhat afraid to jump straight into a progressive. Well, a deal came up on eBay for a Dillon Square Deal B and I jumped for it. I have not been sorry. I understand the arguments for starting with a single stage, but if you are careful you can start with a progressive. I'm past 20K rounds of .45 ACP and also reload .357, .45 Colt, and .44 magnum. It works for me. YMMV.
