Someguy came over to my house with a Trapdoor Springfield and black powder 45/70.

We shot it, and then he wanted to clean it.

So gave him some Simple Green and water. This is a detergent like Seinfeld calling Prell the rocket fuel of shampoo.

We cleaned the black powder out of his bore, but it took the oil finish off his stock.

He asked for some motor oil, rubbed that on his stock, and it seemed back to normal.

"Ad hominem fallacy" is not the same as point by point criticism of books. If you bought the book, and believe it all, it may FEEL like an ad hominem attack, but you might strive to accept other points of view may exist.
