No way, the .45acp is not going anywhere. If anything it is making a big comeback. In the past year Ruger added 3 .45acp pistols to their lineup, the SR1911, SR1911 commander, and the SR45, and I'm sure soon to come SR45C.

Yup it's true, although not every Marine will be carrying a 1911, at least not yet. Unfortunately the shipment they got had alot of problems with I believe cracked frames, they opted for aluminum vs steel frames. So with the way things are going, they might not continue with the Colt 1911's, only time will tell.
