Model 12 is a great home defense shotgun, Old models with no disconnector are particularly good. I would not cut the barrel however.

12's are to nice of guns to chop up. A model 1200 or 1300 are inexpensive and have
many barrel choices readily available and many aftermarket accessories if one wants them.
