The only thing I will fault him for is saying he was going to confront the shooter. You might draw your gun and look for an opportunity to shoot, but you don't confront them. Shoot them in the back preferably, like a coward
Then duck and cover in case they return fire. OTOH, maybe that's what he meant when he said "confront".
