They are completely different pistols. P229 is a classic SIG Sauer P series pistol with its under barrel locking cam, take down procedure, recoil spring, silent two stage decocker, one piece trigger bar detent and trigger return spring, an external extractor with a seperate detent spring, and the SP2022 has a P210 or CZ like under barrel locking cam and with similar take down procedure to them, noisy one stage decocker, two different springs with a seperate trigger bar detent piece and spring, an internal one piece extractor.

The frame of the SP2022 is polymer and slide rails are seperate parts with the two seperate locking and hammer block. While the size of the SP2022 approaches to the P226 and it has almost the same weight with the 229, it has the same barrel lenght with the 229. The standard factory magazine holds two more rounds than the 229. SP2022 shoots as good as any SIG Sauer pistol, be sure that it is not a compromise between the price and the quality. It is the daily carry piece of Bruce Gray if it matters.

P229 is a classic, more compact pistol with a very well known tack driving record.
Try both of them side by side if possible.
Choose the one which suits you better with confidence.

Regards.
