For a concealed carry gun, between the two you suggest, I would go with the Sig 220. Many of the reasons have been stated, but I'll just sum mine up:
1) No safety- while safeties keep the trigger from firing when you don't want to fire, they can also keep the trigger from firing when you want to fire.
2) Double Action trigger- for a first round shot, personally, I want the extra weight of a DA trigger, mostly to help offset my adrenaline.
I like my 1911, believe me. But for carry, I pull out my CZ-75 BD (essentially the same benefits as the 220).

Baloney. Thickness is only relevant when carrying IWB, and the difference in thickness between a 1911 and a Sig 220 is not enough to be significant when carried OWB/SOB/Shoulder. Hyperbole does not lend itself well to a successful argument.
