Just picked up a BFR in .45-70 myself. Should be plenty for white-tails.

I've fired about 4 cylinders worth of ammo through it so far- recoil is substantial with 300 gr. Partitions, but far more controllable than with full-power .454 Casull in 'smaller' (my Freedom Arms Field Grade) guns.
