I am a little unsure what you are asking so forgive me if I give an answer that has no bearing on your question.
I was having a similar problem and I discovered that I was not letting the handle all the way out. The result was that the primers were not able to slip through the slot that is cut into the safety gate assembly (curved piece of steel running between the tops of each piece.
