In the October 2007 American Rifleman magazine Bryce Towsley posted the results of his testing of Goex, Swiss and Scheutzen black powder and all the black powder substitues in production at that time. The test rifle was a Knight rolling block with a 27" barrel.
100 grains of Pyrodex RS gave a velocity of 1,850 fps. 150 grains of Pyrodex RS gave a velocity of 2,139 fps.
About ten years ago a friend and i ran tests on Pyrodex, 777 and Black MZ owder using a .50 CVA inline rifle. Our results for Pyrodex RS Were close those of Mr. Towsley.
In our tests Pyrodex Select gave a velocity of 25-30 fps faster than Pyrodex RS.
