What kind of competition?
If you are putting a compensator on it, that enters you in USPSA and SCSA Open and GSSF Unlimited, so you should install an optical sight to be competitive in those Divisions.
(The compensator completely bars it from IDPA.)
I don't know about other forms of competition, and there are strictly local rules events that can account for about any configuration.
