I have had four 12 gauge Magnum 1100s. Remington designed them to work with 3" and 2-3/4" Magnum shells. Only one of mine would work well with 1-1/8 ounce lead loads. One would run with stout 1-1/4 ounce loads, and the other two needed 1-3/8 ounces or more running over 1200 fps. There are exceptions, but I wouldn't buy one expecting it. My experience with the LW and LT-20 Magnums is that they are a LOT pickier with shells. With the Magnum barrel, mine will not run - much less reliably - with anything but Magnum loads, and I have seen about 10 others that were the same way. However, if you add a regular 2-3/4" barrel either the 12 or the 20 will eat about anything that size.
