Just before our bow season started (last week of Sept) , this same buck was found in the ditch next to the road in front of neighbors field. Big hole in his side and his head had been cut off.
Yep. As I've mentioned here before, I used to come across that all the time on Eglin AFB. The majority of the headless buck (or backstrap-less doe) carcasses were just outside city limits of the wonderful town of Holley.

Jackson Guard (land managers/rangers) claimed to have no idea why the deer were doing so poorly in that area, but anyone within 20 miles knew the problem was rampant poaching.
