Best I can say is that my .40 cal PPS has 2000+ rounds through it with no issues. I have not removed my backstrap in over two years. Double checked it today and no wear. I do have a limbsaver installed to help with the recoil of the .40 cal.
With that being said, all guns are mechanical devices and therefor can fail. As a responsible owner you should be aware of this and check your equipment regularly.
