Why would you mount a flashlight on an M1A? You have a rifle that can make hits on a mansized target at 400 yards and you put a flashlight on it with a range of 100 feet? You end up with a flashlight that weighs 8 1/2 punds and is four feet long. Isn't that handy. What's going to be next, side scanning sonar?
