There is definitely a liability issue if someone like a child gets their hands on your gun and shoots himself after you have removed the lock, as it is your responsibility to keep your gun out of the hands of children. On the other hand you have the same liability if that child got their hands on your gun with a lock and you left it unlocked, and the child shoots himself, at least in Texas that is the law. In Texas you are liable anytime a child gets his hands on your gun period. Shooting someone in self defense has absolutely no bearing what so ever as to the status of your internal lock. We are not talking about safeties, we are discussing locks.
