Individuals often sell below Blue Book (BB) price if they need the cash. Dealers seldom go much below BB price. Their prices are often higher and reflect what they consider to be a market price. But, the BB is a great place to start. I buy a copy every other year. They have gotten a bit pricey, but they're still the best reference in book form. You can often pick up a copy at a fair price at gun shows.
I often price between 80-90% condition using BB pricing on a near new gun from an individual as my starting point. A dealer will buy at a much lower price; they want to resell it quickly and turn the money. Make some moeny and go to the next one.
Been there with the 5 year old copy of the BB.... look it up and that's the price based on condition.... It pays to keep somewhat up to date if you are interested in buying used firearms.
The new edition should be available now as it is published in April.
