Smith Model 52 Owners Please Read!! I need help!!

Hi everyone,

My smith model 52 has been great up until yesterday. While I was testing some new loads, the gun began to double fire every so often. By double fire, I mean it went full auto for 2 rounds!!

Upon further inspection, it seems that the sear is not holding the hammer back well enough.

When I cock the hammer, it stays back. When I push the hammer with my finger as if to push it back up toward the slide, it is still nice and tight.

HOWEVER, with the hammer pulled back, I can place my thumb on the hammer, and when I pull it back even more with just a SLIGHT pressure and release, the hammer will release as if it is firing!! My finger is nowhere near the trigger at this point.

I put the gun away deeming that this is an unsafe condition. Any thoughts????

Thanks!!!
