There is nothing wrong with them at all. They are a push feed design like the Rem 700. The pre 64's were a great rifle and there is a lot of nostalgia to the point that Winchester eventually had to go back to the controlled feed. But, that doesn't mean that the pushfeed rifles were bad.
I have a friend that has shot two barrels out on a 80's model XTP. Just had it rebarreled again. No telling how many deer he has killed with it.
