I have a pretty long winded and passionate rant in the other thread, and this thread is a good example of how I prefer to deal with what I don't care for about Midway rather than bashing Midway.
Like most, my brass is my stock and range pickups. I don't buy much brass, ever.
I think Midway's prices on primers and powder aren't nearly good enough to make it worth paying both shipping and hazmat handling for primers and powders. I do get some of my bullets from them-- usually jacketed rifle bullets, doesn't add too much weight to my order and the prices are better than I can find locally.
My cast bullets I typically get from a local caster in a local shop or gun show. I don't expect them to be super high quality from a local caster. I'm hoping to place decent sized cast bullet order from one of the bigger casters on the net, I just can't justify the expenditure these days and I have a tiny bit of stock so I'm not up against the wall just yet.
Primers I tend to buy at a gun shop when I find a price I like-- usually anything that is $26 or less per thousand. Needless to say, I'm using old stock and haven't bought in a long time. Some guys talk about group buys and I'd LOVE to do that from somone like Powder Valley with 4 or 5 local guys, but it hasn't worked out for me just yet.
As for powder, there's a store not really close to me but I do get there a few times a year and I love their prices on powder. Most are $14 or $15 a pound, some are around $18 for some of the rifle powders. I tend to use a huge array of powders and I constantly tinker and try different stuff rather than go through keg loads of the same powder, so I always buy in one pound cans and they last me a while. I must have a dozen different powders right now.
I think Powder Valley has the prices by which everyone else on earth is going to be compared to. Who sells this stuff cheaper?
Good topic!
