Easy: .38 Super. No second choices. It is really a cartridge for the 1911 but I prefer the .38 Super to the .45 ACP for some reason even though all handguns above .32 and below the handcannon class have pretty much all the same value, in my opinion. I like the 125-grain .357 in revolvers partly because of the similiar performance.
