An easy "spanner wrench" can be made of scrap steel.
You need a piece about 1/8" thick that will fit between the notches.
Use a pair of Vise-Grips to turn it.
Be wary of using the needle nose pliers trick.
A number of people have reported trying this, slipping and ruining the very thin fore end tube.
