When the moderator transfered this question here it didn't transfer. The answer is insure the weapon is unloaded. Retract the slide to the point the indicated in the manual. I think it is were the one end of the slide stop is just past the beginning of the barrel. Then take a small rubber or plastic hammer and knock the slide release loose. It is tricky but easilly done.
